![]() Her stories have been published in 12 languages and have regularly appeared on numerous bestseller lists, including the New York. Alek's character arc feels a little bit like Kellan's initially but I think it works a lot better because of what he's been through and the general fear of losing someone/being a monster, which is very relatable.Beverly Lewis (), born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, has more than 17 million books in print. Some of the prose issues and general early steam level are still present here, and I do wish we got to see more of Lorcan following him in the beginning and falling in love rather than a fate thing, their eventual bond still worked quite nicely for me, thanks to how much they try to fight it. In any case: I think I liked this even more than the previous one. So while Alek's death in the first book is super effective (and the image of the nymph pulling him under the water appeals to me greatly as someone who loves The Shape of Water, the existence of this book does perhaps put a little damper on that despite the aftermath also being heartbreaking and dramatic. It's described as a standalone but with a coming sequel I would suggest reading the first one Lorcan appears throughout the first as a merman following their ship, including one moment when he gets captured briefly. So instead, I reread : said sequel, featuring Alek. I have not yet started ACOWAR because I remembered I had a buddy read coming up for Love At First, so I held off on starting it because I knew it would suck me in! It’s more like a fanfic the period in time. ![]() This book attempts a bit of historical and gothic and doesn’t quite hit them. I love the romance build up and was definitely turning pages to see h get H. Mid book it goes full on dark, heart breaking, gothic, and witch stuff. That was a poor choice to build curiosity and suspense about the witch aspect. This starts of slow and doesn’t explain anything that happens. MF romance/ family witch secrets and sisterly bonding issues. Very cliche phrases if you’re into nerd culture. I think she gave each character depth and flaws, but still lovable. Nerdy WoC that uses a wheel chair and is successful. I gave it a decent rating because, m regardless of all that, I still was rooting for the sisters and wanted to finish the book.Ĥ/5 stars. The individual plots were just not done well. Their brother/ father like male figure ends up being the main story. There was an interesting mystery that was half done. When We Believed in Mermaids by Barbara O’Nealģ/5 stars. 25 percent in so far and it hasn't had the magic of Office Party so far. Anyone who points my girlfriend to this source of insight into my mind will be banned immediately.□Ĭurrently quasi buddy reading with PD Naughty Boss (Steamy Coffee Collection #1) by Whitney G. The Hero and heroine's thoughts are bloody close to what mine would be if I were in their situations. In chapter 4 and I finally realize why this book gets to me so much… narcissism□□♂️□. The best romance book first chapter I have read outside of romcoms. All sorts of extraneous shit in the writing had me skipping plenty of paragraphs… never a good sign.Ĭurrently reading Trusting Miss Trentham (Baleful Godmother #2) by Emily Larkin as recommended by u/endemictoearth. One Night for Love (Bedwyn Saga) by Mary Balogh 1.5 star DNF due to boredom at end of sample. 2 star DNF due to boredom at end of unengaging sample. The epilogue to Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore 3 stars, my favourite part was the Duke facing down his mother.Ī Question of Us by Mary Jayne Baker 1.5 star DNF in first chapter that just left me cold.Īcting Up (Center Stage #1) by Adele Buck as recommended by Lucy Parker. Safe to say I considered it an uninspiring beginning with neither Hero, heroine, nor their interaction being appealing. The Duke Who Didn't (Wedgeford Trials #1) by Courtney Milan 1.5 star DNF as I was already skipping paragraphs in the second chapter. If anyone knows which, if any, of Whitney G.'s other books are of this ilk please don't keep it to yourself.□ You will laugh, you will boo, you will cheer and you will have a good time reading it. A plain good fun contemporary sparring romance. Quasi buddy read with PD of The Office Party by Whitney G. Please only use the single goodreads brackets as the blurb as well is a bit much. Please put your rating, if any, and the sex of the leads, if you consider that worth mentioning, just after the title and author of the book.
